Dr. Crystal Bauer is a licensed clinical psychologist in both Illinois and Indiana. She has been specializing in the treatment of anxiety, mood and behavioral disorders with patients across the lifespan for over a decade. Dr. Bauer utilizes cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), which is the gold standard of care for anxiety disorders. Specifically, exposures with response prevention (ERP), behavioral activation, behavioral modification, cognitive restructuring, mindfulness and other CBT techniques are employed. She also encourages collaboration from members of an individual’s treatment team (i.e., family, psychiatrists, teachers, etc.).
Dr. Bauer prides herself in providing a balance between the serious reality of anxiety and mood disorders and light-hearted humor. She is committed to the treatment and achievement of the goals of her patients, while also understanding the person as a whole. Dr. Bauer believes in the importance of physical health, such as exercise, nutrition and sleep, to augment movement in the therapeutic process.
Dr. Bauer obtained her doctoral degree from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and has worked at some of the most well known anxiety treatment centers in and around Chicago. She has also helped develop an anxiety treatment program within a community mental health setting in Kansas and provided mental health services in the school setting. Dr. Bauer has taught undergraduate courses in field of psychology and has a background working at a maximum-security residential treatment facility for behavior disordered youth. Aside from this, Dr. Bauer is a guest lecturer at a well-renowned university and has presented at the annual conference for the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), of which she is a member. She is also a member of the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) and the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp).
